To create direct access and contracting opportunities for Black contractors and minority-owned businesses by connecting them with public and private sector buyers, while celebrating economic empowerment, legacy, and advancement in honor of Juneteenth.

In 1996, the first Juneteenth Celebration was held at the Freeman Coliseum and featured local bands and entertainment. Future festivals have been held at the Carver Cultural Center and St. Paul Square. However, for the past 20+years, the festival has found a home at Comanche Park No. 2. Through the tireless efforts of the Commission, volunteers and community organizers, the Juneteenth Festival has grown to be a favorite venue for family reunions and the community.

This free daytime engagement will allow families to access family-friendly resources and participate in dance classes, singing competitions, music, face-painting, food trucks, arts and crafts demonstrations and activities, plus vendor merchandise and information booths.

The Negro Motorist Green Book and Civil Rights Bus Tour is a unique opportunity for the community to embark on a 2.5-hour cultural journey through San Antonio’s historic East Side neighborhoods to uncover the untold stories of African American entrepreneurship, resilience, community, and travel as documented in the historic Negro Motorist Green Book.

Juneteenth Fireworks Celebration that commemorates freedom through a safe, high-quality fireworks display and a family-friendly community festival featuring local live entertainment, a DJ, contests, food trucks, vendors, and a corn hole tournament.

This sunset-to-evening affair offers a sophisticated fusion of a world-class DJ-driven soundscape (DJs to be announced), a curated designer runway presentation, and an elevated social atmosphere rooted in culture, style, and intention.

This ticketed evening engagement will provide opportunity for cultural learning with the audience on the plaza’s main stage. There will be a regional artist as the opening act, followed by a headliner.
